Commissioner Petty is excited to share that DPW has received the first of ten new medium-duty busses. This bus is headed to Love City St. John and the nine remaining busses are in route. DPW looks forward to servicing more clients with its growing fleet.
VITRAN FIXED-ROUTE SERVICE WILL NOT RUN ON THURSDAY
ST. CROIX/ST. JOHN/ST. THOMAS – In observance of the upcoming Independence Day holiday, The Virgin Islands Transit System (VITRAN) will not provide fixed-route bus service throughout the territory on Thursday, July 4. Service for ADA Paratransit passengers will run as scheduled on Wednesday, July 3 and Thursday, July 4. St. John passengers will be picked up at the “Round About” due to the St. John Festival activities.
ST. CROIX/ST. JOHN/ST. THOMAS – In observance of the upcoming President’s Day holiday, The Virgin Islands Transit System (VITRAN) will not provide fixed-route bus service throughout the territory on Monday, February 18. However, the holiday will not affect service for ADA Para Transit Service riders, as their buses will run as scheduled.
Public Works Department, Division of Transportation, received grant award to upgrade transit system, Bus, and Bus Facilities
On April 5, 2018, FTA announced approximately $264 million in project selections to improve the safety and reliability of America’s bus systems and enhance mobility for transit riders across the country. A total of 139 projects in 52 states and territories will receive funding from FTA’s Buses and Bus Facilities Infrastructure Investment Program.
The new St. Croix VITRAN bus maintenance and operations facility project is underway. The project has been assigned to a DPW project engineer and Steve Hutchins Architects, Inc has been re-engaged to update the construction plans that were prepared several years ago.
